Hi! I’m Desiree Dalkiran, and I’m so happy you found our website. I became a counselor because I am passionate about helping others improve their quality of life. Nothing is more rewarding to me than seeing others grow and thrive. I’m guessing you stumbled onto my site because you are aware of how hard life can be. I recognize that taking the chance to connect to someone can be a scary thing. I honor the bravery that it takes even to make this step to reach out to us. Therapy is an opportunity to let go of the stress of connecting and be able to explore yourself.

I believe we all have a unique culture, and understanding my clients’ culture is very important to me. Originally from this area, I know the unique culture that exists here. After moving away from Oregon following high school, I traveled the world extensively, including living in the Netherlands. Counseling is my third career, and I have a multifaceted background working with diverse populations from roofing to management, which impacts my work in this field. From all my travels and contacts with various cultures, I have developed the belief that humans, and everything they consist of, want to mend and heal. Though sometimes, the path to do that is not clear.

I received my Masters of Counseling from Arizona State University in 2015 and have worked in community mental health since 2016. I am a National Board Certified Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Oregon and Texas. I am an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider and an EMDR Certified Therapist and also a member of the American Counseling Association. My theoretical approach is from a biopsychosocial model that looked at the intersectionality of the physical body, the mental state, and social relationships to conceptualize the issues.

Additionally, I believe multicultural components and evaluation of the systems that clients are a part of our essential elements to understanding where clients have come from and the direction they would like to go. Some of the modalities used in my practice include EMDR, behavioral modification, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, DBT, CBT, Internal Family Systems, Emotional Freedom Technique, Emotion Focused Therapy, play therapy, and art therapy. In my experience, psycho-education can be an essential piece of allowing clients to feel empowered in their care, and I like to focus on education centering on brain development, brain function, and attachment.

I practice in Oregon as an LPC under license C5705. I am a Board Certified Counselor with the National Board of Certified Counselors, ID #627085. I am required to follow mandated reporting laws in Oregon. At times I may seek consultation and supervision regarding particular situations or as I seek out continuing education. Information regarding the limitations to confidentiality will be provided to clients on an ongoing basis

My work as a therapist is a way to support others by connecting their dots, identifying what feels most important, and then determining how to cultivate and nourish those values. Most of our challenges arise from skills we developed that have become harmful or that we have simply outgrown, and taking thoughtful time to explore and modify the way we move through life can facilitate profound changes.

FAQs

There is no such thing as no communication. For instance, even when we’re silent, we’re communicating something. Perhaps we are not in the mood for a talk that speaks for itself, doesn’t it? On the other hand, when we are in an exploratory mood, we ask questions. As a result, our intellectual capacity increases.
Questions are what makes us thrive, ask, and we will search and find an answer together.

Clients feel comfortable talking with their therapists most of the time. Sometimes, though, it might not feel right. It might not be easy, but it is worth speaking directly to your therapist to let them know you are interested in changing therapists. Although we don't get mad or offended when clients wish to change therapists for their reasons, it can be helpful to discuss your concerns with them to find the best way to help you.

Therapists usually meet with clients once a week or every two weeks. There is no one-size-fits-all approach, as each client's needs and goals will be different. Some therapies require sessions every day!

Expect your first experience at the therapist's office to be like a doctor's visit. When you arrive, you will need to sign in, wait in the waiting area, and wait for someone else to call.
